This Year's Race has Been Certified by USA Track & Field

This race has applied for and received the Chicago Area Runners Association designation as a CARA EMERGING RACE. This race has agreed to adhere to and uphold CARA’s Best Practices Guidelines. These Guidelines embody the highest standards for quality, safety and comfort for participants in a road race.

Pre-Race Day Packet Pick Up & Check-In

We strongly suggest picking up your race pack and checking in for the race on Friday, October 21st.  This will save you significant time on Saturday morning.  If you would like to pick up your race pack in advance, you may do so on Friday, October 21st between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at Gorton Community Center – 400 E. Illinois Road in Lake Forest.  Picking up your race pack in advance will save you time at race check-in.  Proceed to the LEAD Office on the 2nd Floor of Gorton Community Center and look for the signs for “Red Ribbon Race Packet Pick-Up.”

Alternatively, you may check in and pick up your race pack on race day. Race day packet pick-up will be available from 7:00 a.m. – 8:15 a.m. packet pick-up closes EXACTLY at 8:15 a.m.

Timing & Bibs

The Red Ribbon Race is an officially timed event using the disposable B-Tag timing system. Timing chips are attached directly to the back of your bib number and are to remain adhered for the duration of the event.

In order to receive an accurate time, please confirm your bibs is:

  • Clearly visible on the front of the torso
  • Unaltered and unmodified (Do not fold or wrinkle)
  • Pinned in all four corners
  • Not covered (jackets, runner belts, water bottles, etc.)

You may park at the Lake Forest Train Station, in the Gorton Community Center parking lot or in the parking lot located just north of the Gorton Community Center.  You may also park on surrounding side streets adjacent to the Gorton Center where permitted.  All parking is free the day of the race from 7:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  You will not need a permit to park in the Lake Forest Train Station and on-street parking time limits will not be enforced.


Day of Race Registration & Check-In

Check-In will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, October 22.  We suggest you arrive no later than 8:15 a.m.  If you have pre-registered and paid, you will simply need to give your last name at the race check-in desk.  You will then be handed your race-pack and bib numbers.  If you have not yet paid, we will accept cash, check, or credit card at check-in.

Registration on race day is available from 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m.  Online registration will remain open until 8:15 a.m. on race day.


Race Start

The 5K Race will start promptly at 8:30 a.m. The 2K Fun Run will step off a few minutes later.


Wellness Fair

As you may already be aware, our race will run in conjunction with the fourth annual “Taste of Wellness” fair.  The wellness fair will be open until 12:00 p.m. and will feature nearly 20 wellness exhibitors, plus great games and activities for you and your family, including face painters and fire engine tours.  We encourage you to stop by the wellness fair.  A schedule of activities will follow.
